42 stories about food and its simple pleasures
24 recipes from a French pastry chef
Food is vital. It sustains us. And yet it also comes to define us. It expresses who we are and want to be. It anchors memories. It provides rituals. It is sensual. It can pleasure and surprise us.
In this book of stories, myths, dreams and recipes, V.P Colombo uses food as a metaphor to explore the human psyche, relationships and life in all its beauty and complexity. Here you’ll meet a lemon as a character in a story, a madeleine as folklore, journey through gardens of roses and get to know vanilla in a way that you never expected.
There are authentic French recipes too. From chocolate mousse to tarte aux pommes, learn how to bake all the classic desserts you’ll ever need to know simply and successfully.

Passionate. Senual. Exceptional. The well-written short stories were captivating, heartwarming and lifted my soul. The author's genuine love for her art(s) shone through clearly. I must admit, I was a tad intimidated of the recipes, as I am no cook. I was pleasantly surprised, though, to discover that one does not need to be a master of French cooking to follow. Can't wait to try some of them out. Great read!Product details

Awesome read! I loved the variety in story telling throughout which pulls your emotions in all sorts of directions. Can't wait to try out some the recipes too!
Sensuous writing and delectable recipes reside together in V.P.Colombo's charming book, 'A Little Bite of Happiness'.
Colombo is a Parisian-born pastry chef (now based in Sydney) who has given us gorgeous reading in her part cookbook, part memoir. Bursting with authentic French recipes and vignettes of creative writing, 'A Little Bite of Happiness' will delight lovers of sumptuous food and romantic short stories.
My favourite part is when Virginie admits her addiction to cheese! A fellow cheese addict is always welcome. Bravo Virginie on giving the world such a unique book filled with your wonderful recipes and stories. Highly recommended.
Written by a gorgeous Parisian born and bred French pastry chef, this book uses food as a metaphor to explore life and sensuality in all its glory. This is not your typical recipe cookbook, hell no, it's much more than that! You will never think about vanilla, lemon or chocolate the same way ever again. At times I wasn't sure whether I was reading an erotic romance novel by Nikki Sloane, and for that I 'thank you' Mademoiselle Colombo!
Some bites I cherished
Make the most of it, every bite is an infinite source of pleasure, envy, lust and love; he was like chocolate, all sweet at the beginning, then bittersweet..finally he turned dark bitter...like chocolate, she couldn't stop craving him, going back to him with the hope, that he would be sweet again; a peaceful satisfaction invaded her, carnally and emotionally...she was happy, fulfilled, revealed to herself by his touch...God she loved Chocolate; I dress my legs with a pair of transparent tights, and don an elegant decollete black lace dress, revealing gracefully my curves in a 1960s style...I delicately slip into my black velvet Prada heels, last touch but not least to my beautification, shaping my feet, ankles and legs in a sexy way...I tame my fauve mane, lustre my hair with argan oil, and then rush to the kitchen to prepare a luscious dinner for my lover...Chocolate mousse is the ultimate lovers' dessert.
Now to prepare a luscious Creme Chantilly, which will make your lover want to eat you, you just have to grab the book and refer to pages 78-79. Trust me on that!! ....
Such a 'Livre doux', the book impressed me in every chapter, the author's style is well expressed on all her stories.
Love the Sweet recipes and easy fun to create them, sweet looking when is all done.
Very exciting read. So different to what I have read before, and the recipes look delicious. The author has clearly a love for food, it shows in her writing. Would have never thought of depicting foods as characters.... won't say too much though, don't want to reveal all of the secrets of this exciting book.
What an amazing book! These delectable short stories will capture, enthrall and certainly arouse your curiosity... for love, life and cooking. The authors presence throughout the book makes you feel like you've developed a deep friendship that will continue as you try your hand, with her assistance, of the exceptionally delicious pastries. A must read!!
For foodies and literary junkies, this adorable collection satisfies both cravings! Virginie melds the pleasures and sensations of food with the love of storytelling to create an addictive read. I especially loved The Maid and her tale about the origination of Madelines, and The Devils Chicken I wish I had written. Tons of recipes and I can’t wait to try Chantilly Lace (for all the naughty reasons😉)
